MARTIN PAPESCH HULEJA

I am a Creative Director with extensive experience in the film industry. I excel at breaking down complex problems and making them manageable.

My most powerful tools of expression are screenwriting and directing, and I am also highly skilled in photography and cinematography.

Background

Video/movie/TV creation is my most muscular leg. Rooted in Marketing Communication studies, I overlap with creative strategy, marketing campaigns and commercials.

Discovery / Curiosity

Every client is unique and requires a personalized approach. That’s why I start by asking questions and attentively listening to their needs. With over 15 years of experience, I have developed a set of my favourite questions that guide me through the process:

- Where are we currently?

- Where do we want to go?

- How can we get there?

- Are we making progress towards our goal?

This approach works well in various areas of life, including film production, advertising, and many more. Being able to identify patterns comes with practice.

Structure

The structure is the backbone of creativity. Just as design means arranging things in the right relationships, the creative process is dragging useful stuff out of chaos. Initially, it is messy and unpredictable, but with time and repetition, I found and learned frameworks that helped me tame it.

Or at least it looks like I tamed it in the end. It’s a wild beast, and I remain humble  :D

Influence

Books

Creative Direction in the Digital World has some very useful frameworks that will help you establish structure in your thinking about creative direction. I find these very useful and keep a handful in my archive. Once the assignment comes, it is like choosing your Pokémon to tackle the complexity of campaigns.
